A memorable hiking holiday in the Ahrntal Valley

Conquer the mountains, discover alpine pastures and walk past lush meadows and through peaceful woods …

Spend your hiking holiday in the Ahrntal Valley, where famous South Tyrolean mountaineer Hans Kammerlander comes from and climbed the first summits of his undoubtedly successful career! With 84 three-thousanders on your doorstep, passionate mountaineers and hikers are spoilt by choice with all the exciting hiking possibilities.

Those who would like to experience some sea feeling also in the mountains should visit the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. Combined with a pleasure hike you can easily reach the Reinbach waterfalls, many rushing streams and idyllic mountain lakes. How about an alpine pasture hike? Or a more challenging tour to one of the many refuge huts? Choose the tour that suits you best!

When you’re on a gourmet holiday in South Tyrol and prefer cosy hikes in the Ahrntal Valley, on paths suitable for pushchairs, you can use the cableways of Klausberg or Speikboden hiking resorts, go up the mountains and start your pleasure hike at the top station. Furthermore, you can go on a theme hike in the close proximity and walk on the Architecture Path in Sand in Taufers, the Saint Francis’ Path to the Reinbach Waterfalls, the Energy Learning Trail here in Mühlen and many more!

We made a list of the most beautiful hikes our valley has to offer:

Excursion to the Reinbach-Waterfalls

Start: Hotel Vitaurina Royal
Duration: 4 hours (with return)
Altitude difference: ca. 300 m
Level: easy

Among the beauties of our valley are the Reinbach Waterfalls with the reflection path of Saint Francis.

Directly from the hotel across the fields to the next village called “Kematen” and following the instruction plants to “Bad Winkel”. Stay on the road for another 1 km until you reach the symbolic gate and the marking ‘‘T‘‘. The meditational path of the holy Franciscans leads alongside the 3 Reinbach Waterfalls up to the “Franziskus and Klara” chapel.  The path we follow is marked with the symbol ‘‘T’’, the last character of the Hebrew alphabet ‘‘tau’’.

Excursion to the Lake Klaussee

Start: mountain station Klausberg at Steinhaus
Duration: 5 hours (with return)
Altitude difference: ca. 600 m
Level: middle

A scenic lake in the high mountains with a breath-taking view to the glaciers of the Alps and the Zillertal.

From the valley station Klausberg in Steinhaus, you ascend with the cable car to the mountain station. The route follows the maker no. 33 (Durreck Höhenweg) and proceeds past several mountain huts. Briefly after the starting point is located a hut called “Moaregg Alm”, where you can decide, if you want to walk along the gravelled road or the hiking path at the edge of the forest (steeper but shorter). The path proceeds steadily uphill and follows the ski slope which is used as pasture in summer. After about 2 hours you have reached the destination at 2,160 m.a.s.l. – the lake Klaussee.

Hike on the Arthur-Hartdegen-Trail (2,650 m)

Start: parking area of cross-country centre Rein in Taufers
Duration: 7.5 hours (with return)
Altitude difference: 1,080 m
Level: difficult

Starting from the parking area you follow trail no. 1 up to Hasseler Hütte hut. There, the Arthur Hartdegen Trail (no. 8) starts. The mostly level path leads you through varying terrain to the western slope of the Riesernock mountain. There, you follow the trail up until you reach a crossing. Proceed on trail no. 8 A until reaching Ursprungalm hut and follow the same trail passing Brunneralm hut until Kofleralm hut. Your tour continues on trail no. 8 A past Untere Kofleralm hut. Before reaching the Knuttenbach stream, you turn left on the broad path and follow the way back to the starting point.
